REUTERS/Evgenia Novozhenina/File Photo(Reuters) – Vehicles made by Tesla (NASDAQ) Inc, and other electric utility vehicles from competitors, are some of the most unreliable models in America, according to Consumer Reports. This is a result of risks associated with new technology.
Consumer Reports is a non-profit organization that assesses products and services. It ranked Tesla 27th among 28 brands. This was just behind Ford Motor (NYSE.) Co.’s Lincoln brand.
“Electric SUVs are the lowest reliability vehicle type,” Jake Fisher, Consumer Reports’ director of vehicle testing, stated Thursday at a Detroit Automotive Press Association presentation.
Fisher spoke out in favor of electric SUVs. Ford Motor Co Mustang Mach-E, “is the only vehicle with above-average reliability”
Consumer Reports endorses the Tesla Model 3 sedan, and rates it as reliable at “average.” Fisher however stated that Tesla’s other vehicles are not as good.
Fisher noted that Tesla’s Model Y SUV (the most-sold model) has many problems, including leaks and poor body fitting.
Fisher stated that the larger Model X SUV still has issues with falcon wing doors.
