FRANKFURT, (Reuters) – Unexpected risks could be posed to the shipping industry by labor negotiations at U.S. ports in the west and the winter weather in northern hemisphere in the coming months, Hapag-Lloyd’s chief of German container company Hapag-Lloyd stated on Thursday.

Rolf Habben Jansen Chief Executive stated, “Winter could have a significant effect on shipping”, adding that the weather conditions so far looked good.

“The second thing are the labor negotiations on U.S. west Coast, where it is important to reach an agreement reasonably quickly,” he said.

The company announced last week a 10-fold increase of its net profit for the nine months to September.
