TORONTO, Reuters – Canadian insurance and banks allowed employees of their offices to work remotely from the time of the pandemic. But with nearly 80% having been vaccinated twice, the insurers are slowly bringing people back to the office, most adopting hybrid arrangements.

These are the plans of major banks and insurances to return staff to their work places. While some have set return dates, others keep things more flexible.

Royal Bank of Canada: While most of its 61,000 employees work from home, many are returning to the office or planning on doing so in the weeks and months ahead. Some of these employees will switch to a hybrid model where they work from home but also at the office.

Every business region and group is working out the best arrangements. Employees will be notified at least 4 weeks in advance of their return to work.

Toronto-Dominion Bank : While employees who work from home will not be returning to their bank branches before 2022 is expected, it “monitoring” the changing situation. If conditions are favorable, employees can return to TD offices.

Bank of Nova Scotia: Scotiabank will begin a gradual return of remote employees to their head offices starting Jan. 17. Different groups will experience a different return schedule. Most head-office employees will use a hybrid model of work and the returns will be arranged in stages.

Bank of Montreal: Some of the employees working at home have returned to BMO branches in June. Others started work in fall. Groups, geographies and teams will have different timelines for their full-fledged homecoming.

Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce – Most Canadians who are employed from their homes will soon return to work on a mixed basis starting in 2022.

Manulife Financial (NYSE): Manulife anticipates that employees from Canada and the United States will return to work on January 24, and many of them working three days per week, Mondays, Wednesdays, and one flexible day in the office.

Banks and insurance companies have also established mandatory vaccination policies for employees to be able to return home.
