This is likely to begin in the middle 2022.
Number. The No. 1 U.S. automaker stated that it would cover retrofitting new cars without having to purchase the required chips for heated and ventilated seating. GM, along with other automakers, has had to reduce vehicle production and in some cases create vehicles that lack certain features to preserve chip supply. GM, along with others, have focused their efforts on preserving the production of their most profit-oriented vehicles by addressing this shortage.
Friday’s actions came just a week after Detroit told U.S. dealerships it had removed certain heated and ventilated features from some models in response to a shortage of chips.
Automotive News obtained a memo from GM telling dealers that the company will reduce prices on vehicles without heated or ventilated seating by $50 rather than $500, as originally stated. Automotive News reports that heated steering wheels can’t be retrofitted so any vehicles without this feature will be reduced by $150.
GM stated that other features had been removed from certain models due to the chip crisis, but were now reinstated. These included side blind zone alarm and climate control digital temperatures displays.
