(Reuters] – Rivian Automotive Inc may offer a smaller range of electric vans to Amazon.com Inc (NASDAQ) than previously reported, The Information reports on Friday. The driver was testing the vehicle.

The Information was told by the driver that the vehicle’s heat or cooling caused the battery to drain 40% more quickly than normal.

Amazon revealed a 20% stake at Rivian in October. In 2019, it ordered 100,000 electric delivery vehicles as part its efforts to lower its carbon footprint.

Rivian stated that vans could travel between 120 and 150 miles, depending on the size. The report stated that this range can be much shorter depending on weather conditions.

According to this report, Ross Rachey from Amazon’s Global Fleets and Products director, stated that heating and air conditioning can drain the batteries in test vehicles. The vans were not equipped with the same insulation Rivian final vehicles will have.

There were 12 cameras in and out of the prototype van. Amazon will add 4 once it is on the road.

Reuters asked Rivian and Amazon for their comments, but Amazon did not reply immediately.

Rivian is now one of America’s top automakers and has been listed publicly since then, even though the company has just launched production of electric vehicles.

The shares lost some of their gains after the announcement and are currently up approximately 4%.
