The report says that Manchin still hasn’t decided whether to back Powell or Brainard in the race for the job. A spokesperson said that Manchin had spoken with Powell earlier in week to discuss his thoughts on inflation and expressed interest in Powell’s renomination as Fed Chair.
Manchin was supportive of Powell’s nomination in the first round, but he has expressed concern about the Fed’s bond buying program and rising inflation.
Biden will likely choose the nominee to be Fed Chair before Thursday’s holiday.
