Xbox Chief Still Skeptical About Gaming NFTs Despite Square Enix, EA and Ubisoft Support

The number of crypto-gaming options keeps increasing in every media medium. September was the month of nonacceptance after Steam’s announcement that it would be banning all games involving crypto and NFTs from its digital store. Contrary to popular belief, Epic Store quickly accepted all abandoned games.

Soon after, Mark Zuckerberg shook the crypto world with his announcement of Facebook’s rebrand to Meta, and their foray into building a metaverse, similar to what we have in Decentraland and The Sandbox. Two things occurred in the aftermath of this announcement: Gaming coins skyrocketed and such giant gaming studios like Square Enix, EA, Ubisoft and EA came out to support blockchain gaming technology.

Phil Spencer (NASDAQ:) was the executive vice-president for gaming at Microsoft and, thereby, Head of Xbox. He recently shared his views on blockchain’s role in the future. He admitted, however, that NFTs can be both experimental and speculative. Therefore, he is cautious about them. Xbox does not plan to encourage their integration into its ecosystem.

“What I’d say today on NFT, all up, is I think there’s a lot of speculation and experimentation that’s happening, and that some of the creative that I see today feels more exploitive than about entertainment.”

What are the reasons to care?

There is a discrepancy between the feelings of gamers and the rest. While half the major gaming companies are eager to adopt blockchain technology, the rest remain skeptical. We know that mass adoption is dependent on what happens every day.
