(Reuters] – Hong Kong authorities announced that Saturday the end of a mandatory quarantine had been lifted for 111 Cathay Pacific employees, who had stayed at the hotel in Germany with three other pilots who were positive for COVID-19.

Cathay Pacific Airways Ltd (OTC) fired three of the cargo pilots infected by COVID-19 while on a layover at Frankfurt. They were dismissed for an “unspecified” violation of international crew rules.

The Centre for Health Protection of the Department of Health in Hong Kong stated that it has ended the mandatory quarantine of the remaining 111 employees. However, 10 members of the aircrew were considered close contacts and asked to stay isolated.

A German health authority confirmed that there had not been any Covid-19 related cases in connection to the Frankfurt hotel.

It is highly probable that they will. [the three pilots]The Department of Health stated that the possibility of an infection in the hotel from a shared source or other guests was low.

Although Hong Kong has seen a slew of coronavirus-related cases in recent months, the authorities have tightened quarantine regulations in this global financial hub.

Cathay stated that after the reports of cases in pilots were made public last week, it would increase inspections at outgoing ports to verify safety and health standards were being observed during layovers.
