(Reuters) – Dozens were left stranded in Europe on Saturday night after their U.S. bound flight made an emergency landing at Dublin in the wake of an engine problem.

Brussels Airlines flight number 102 was flying from Brussels to New York. On Friday, pilots sent a pan-pan message. It indicated an urgent, but manageable, problem when the plane flew west at 37,000 feet above the Celtic Sea.

The 12-year-old Airbus A330-300-300 Pilots asked to depart to Shannon in west Ireland. However, they were directed to switch to Dublin by Aviation Herald. Aviation Herald is an independent website that monitors aircraft accidents.

Lufthansa’s unit Brussels Airlines didn’t immediately reply to our request for comment.

They were praised but not able to comment on the fact that the crew had been housed in Dublin, before they flew to Paris.

Maja Schmidt (18 years old) from Germany was among them. She was going to New York for work as an au pair.

She told Reuters by mobile that she ate bread and a cookie because they didn’t offer anything vegetarian.

Oliver Sommerburg (22 years old) from Hamburg, Germany was also aboard, making only the second flight.

Bernard Vidick was a Belgian magistrate who claimed that he wasn’t allowed to connect with Paris due to delays in the flight bringing passengers from Dublin.
