Poland says Belarus keeps bringing migrants to its border -Breaking

REUTERS/Kacper PempelWARSAW/VILNIUS – On Sunday, Poland charged Belarus with continuing to transport migrants to its borders, despite clearing camp areas near the border this week. This was as Poland’s prime minister began a tour through the Baltic States to find support for the crisis.
Europe charges Belarus with bringing in thousands of Middle East migrants and forcing them into the European Union. This accusation has been made against Alexander Lukashenko, the Belarusian president since last year’s disputed elections.
Minsk denied fomenting the crisis and cleared the border with a refugee camp on Thursday. It then began to return some Iraqis to Iraq as part of an apparent shift in the conflict, which has escalated to a serious East-West rivalry.
Poland insists Minsk is still trucking hundreds of migrants along the frontier. Around 10 migrants have been reported to have perished in harsh winters.
“On Saturday…a group consisting of approximately 100 extremely aggressive foreigners was brought to the border and tried to cross into Poland with force by Belarusian military personnel. The crossing was stopped by (Polish) security services,” the border guard stated on Twitter (NYSE 🙂 Sunday.
According to the border guard, there were 208 attempts made by migrants from Belarus to enter Poland via Poland on Saturday. This was a little more than Friday’s but still far less than the 501 attempted on Wednesday.
According to neighbouring Lithuania, 44 migrants were stopped from coming into the country on Saturday. This is the lowest figure in one week.
Speaking with DELFI, a dozen Iraqi migrants spoke out to DELFI, Lithuanian news portal, over the Belarus border on Saturday. They claimed that they were brought in by Belarusian officials who refused to allow them to return to Iraq.
Mateusz Morawiecki, Poland’s Prime Minster, visited Estonia to talk about the crisis with Kaja Kallas. Later that day, he’ll travel to Lithuanian and Latvia.
Morawiecki added that the new war on Poland’s Eastern borders was a conflict in which migrants act as weapons. “Morawiecki also stated that additional sanctions were being put in place against Minsk.
According to a poll conducted by SW Research and published by Rzeczpospolita on Sunday, 55.1% believed that the current crisis at the border might escalate into an ongoing armed conflict.
However, thousands took part on Saturday in demonstrations at Warsaw’s border with Belarus to protest against the treatment of migrants.
