NEW YORK, (Reuters) – Michael Cohen, former personal lawyer and fixer of President Donald Trump, walked free from federal court on Monday after completing his three year sentence for campaign finance violations.

Cohen, 55 years old, stated to reporters that he was still under supervision for 3 years. He said that he wanted to cooperate with law enforcement in order to ensure that other people are accountable for their crimes and that no one is above the law.

He tweeted minutes later, a photo of him smiling as he presented his paperwork.

“This is how freedom looks!” Cohen stated this on Twitter (NYSE :). He also posted a photo of himself with his hair graying, wearing black jeans and a winter jacket. He was at the wheel of the car.

Cohen, who was representing himself all through the criminal proceeding, pleaded guilty December 2018 to campaign finance fraud and tax evasion.

Cohen was quickly released from New York’s federal prison because of COVID-19’s devastating effect on U.S. prisoners. The Otisville New York prison had held Cohen for just over a year before he was sent home to complete the term.

His home confinement was to be ended on May 29th, six months earlier than he wanted. He claimed that he had worked hundreds of hours and taken courses in prison while being held in Otisville (about 75 miles (120km) north of his apartment).

A federal judge denied his request and ordered that he be confined to his residence until Nov. 22. This is in accordance with more than five months credit for his good conduct.
