According to police, more than twenty people were hurt when an SUV drove through a downtown Waukesha holiday parade route on Sunday.
Waukesha Police Chief Daniel Thompson stated at Sunday’s press conference, that authorities are “looking into” an individual of interest. He also said the vehicle was recovered and that there wasn’t an ongoing threat.
The chief declared, “The scene has now been secured.”
Although the cause was still unknown, an investigation was underway.
At the press conference, Mayor Shawn Reilly stated that this was a “traumatic situation” for Waukesha.
Scott Greger of Waukesha said that he saw the car strike somebody, then continue and hit a floating object.
“The red SUV came barreling down the street — very, very high rate of speed, and hit a pedestrian,” he said live on MSNBC.”
He claimed that the sirens of police in the vicinity preceded the arrival of the SUV.
Greger described the route to be “full” of spectators as well as marchers.
Greger stated that the 58th annual Christmas Parade was to be held from 2-6 p.m. Last year, it was cancelled due to pandemic.
