Authorities in England have announced that new properties in England must be equipped with electric vehicle charging points.

Boris Johnson, the Prime Minister of Britain said in a speech to Confederation of British Industry annual conference that “We are regulating so that new homes and buildings must have EV charging stations. With another 145,000 charging point to be installed because of these regulations.”

Johnson spoke about his personal experiences with electric cars during his speech. Johnson said, “I was the first to try it.” TeslaHe said that the GQ was for sale in this country. It expired at the M40’s speed lane, which I regret to report, but I believe they have a lot more.

Details of the U.K. plan were detailed in an announcement made on Sunday, prior to Johnson’s remarks.

In addition to new houses and buildings, such as offices and shopping malls, which will have to be equipped with EV charger points starting in 2022 from all buildings, regulations will apply to major renovations.

As the U.K. tries to build the infrastructure necessary to meet its 2030 goal of halting the sale of petrol and diesel cars and vans, the U.K. plans to increase charging points. This will require that all new cars, vans, and trucks must emit zero tailpipe gases by 2035.

When it comes to challenging the perceptions of range anxiety (a term used to describe electric vehicles’ inability to make long trips without running out of power, or becoming stranded), having adequate charging options is essential.

Mike Childs, the head of policy at Friends of the Earth was one of the many who reacted to the announcement.

Childs stated that “our homes and buildings must be designed to meet the challenges of climate change, including charging points for electric vehicles. This is a crucial role in creating a zero carbon future.”

Childs stated that ministers should also offer financial incentives such as scrappage schemes to encourage people to shift to cleaner cars. He added that it was important to get people to drive less.

He stated that new housing must include safe bike storage, access to high-quality public transportation and safe routes for cyclists to offer real alternatives to driving.

As environmental issues continue to mount, companies and major economies are seeking to create and scale low or zero-emission cars.

Signatories to a declaration signed at the COP26 Climate Change Summit earlier this month stated that they were working towards “zero emission of all new cars and vans globally by 2040, with no later than 2035 on leading markets.”
