U.S. government and American Airlines, JetBlue propose trial date -Breaking

Corrects Nov 19, story shows that parties have reached an agreement on a trial schedule. However, the judge hasn’t approved the plan.

(Reuters) –The U.S. Justice Department and American Airlines (NASDAQ) Group Inc have reached an agreement to schedule a trial for the antitrust suit against the airlines by the government for the second quarter of 2019.

According to court papers filed Friday, the U.S. District judge Leo Sorokin still has to approve the schedule and trial date proposed by him in Boston.

This trial is a result of an antitrust suit filed by six states and the Justice Department over the so-called “Northeast Alliance” partnership between JetBlue Airlines and American Airlines.

According to the suit, the agreement would result in higher fares at busy Northeastern U.S. Airports. It seeks to stop the plan which was first announced in July 2020 by U.S. Transportation Department and then approved shortly before Trump’s departure.
