White House says no Covid lockdowns as European nations implement restrictions

According to White House Coronavirus Response Coordinator Jeff Zients, the Biden administration does not plan on reducing future Covid-19 spikes by imposing a national lockdown.

Zients’ remarks come at a time when Austria is in its fourth nationwide lockdown. The Netherlands has instituted partial lockdown during a Covid flood that has swept across Europe in the past weeks. Zients suggested that instead of locking down America, the federal government will rely upon vaccines and other therapeutic treatments in order to protect the nation from another Covid-related disaster.

Zients explained that the virus can be stopped without having to stop our economy. We now have 82% coverage and we are seeing more people get vaccinated every week.

Zients called on the U.S. to continue using vaccines, booster shots, and monoclonal antibody in order to stop the country “going backwards” in any form. For almost three weeks, the U.S. had a plateau of between 70,000 to 75,000 cases per day. But, since Sunday they have reached an average seven-day rate of close to 92,400 daily, which is 16% higher than the week before, according CNBC analysis. The data was compiled by Johns Hopkins University. The World Health Organization’s most recent epidemiological update reported that Europe had logged more than 2 million cases in the week ending Nov. 14. This represents 64% of global cases over the same time period.

Austria recorded a seven-day average of nearly 14,000 daily cases as of Sunday, up 28% from a week ago, according to data compiled by Hopkins. And the Netherlands is seeing an average of about 21,000 infections per day for the week ending Sunday, 56% higher than the week prior.

Austria is currently in lockdown. The lockdown will end Monday. There will be a national vaccine mandate that goes into effect on February 1. said Friday. The Netherlands implemented a partial lockdown, which forced select Dutch businesses to close earlier and prevented the public attending three weeks of sporting events. Reuters reported.
