CHICAGO, (Reuters) – Millions of Americans will fly from the United States to celebrate Thanksgiving with their loved ones.

Transportation Security Administration will screen approximately 20 million passengers for the trip, as opposed to nearly 26,000,000 in the 2018 same time period. The fifth consecutive Monday in which the TSA has exceeded 2 million checkpoints, Monday saw the screening of 2.1 million U.S. passengers.

After a summer of cancellations and delays, the holiday weekend will be a testing time for airlines. One in five Americans are concerned about delays and cancellations, according to a new American Pecans/YouGov survey.

Airlines are feeling confident, despite the fact that Thursday’s weather is expected to be calm.

Delta Air Lines spokesperson stated, “We have the staff and resources to take our customers safely, reliably and comfortably.”

Atlanta-based airline hired 8,00 new staff, 1500 reservations agents. American Airlines (NASDAQ) has released 1,800 flight attendants for recall this month. Southwest Airlines (NYSE) hired over 4,500 new employees within the last few months.

American Airlines, Southwest, and JetBlue offer bonuses and higher wages to make sure they have sufficient workers. Southwest has reduced flight times to improve on-time performance, and has strengthened its customer service department.

Due to rising COVID-19 vaccine rates, Thanksgiving Week is expected to be one of the busiest travel weeks in 2 years.

AAA, a travel group, estimates that 53.4 Million people will travel to Thanksgiving, an increase of 13% over 2020. Air travel is expected to recover to 91% pre-pandemic levels.

According to the YouGov survey, rising gas prices is the greatest concern for Americans this holiday season.
