Bailey spoke at the Cambridge Union’s discussion about “the boundary between commentary and guidance”
Financial markets were shocked when the BoE kept interest rates steady at coronavirus-pandemic lows earlier in October. Investors took Bailey’s October remarks as an indicator that the BoE would raise interest rates at its November meeting.
The December decision of the BoE regarding monetary policy is expected to be made public on December 16.
