KUALA LUMPUR. (Reuters). Dyson ended its partnership with ATA IMS Bhd. This was in response to an audit by Malaysian labor practices. Also, a whistleblower made allegations about the supplier. This is the British vacuum cleaner manufacturer that’s been renowned for its innovative high-tech vacuums.

Dyson stated that it had ordered an audit of the working conditions at ATA in early this year. The results were received Oct 4.

Dyson explained that the ATA was also informed by a whistle-blower in September about allegations of unacceptable actions. They immediately commissioned an internationally-based law firm to investigate.

Dyson released a statement to Reuters saying that “despite intense engagement over six weeks, we haven’t seen sufficient progress” and had already taken down some production lines. “We have now terminated our relationship with six months’ of contractual notice.”

ATA manufactures parts for Dyson’s vacuum cleaners.

Dyson is responsible for nearly 80% of ATA’s revenue, according to ATA.

After a prominent rights activist claimed that U.S. authorities would scrutinise the company’s work practices, ATA denied any allegations of forced labor at its factories in May.
