Belgium confirms case of new, heavily mutated Covid variant

One of Belgium’s most respected virologists has reported that a Belgian case of the highly mutated virus that causes Covid-19 was confirmed.
Marc Van Ranst of the Rega Institute said that the Rega Institute confirmed that the sample had been taken from a patient who was returning to Egypt in November 2011. This patient was first diagnosed on November 22.

According to the World Health Organization (WHO), this variant was detected for the first time in South Africa in limited samples. Reports on Friday morning also indicated that there had been cases in Israel and Hong Kong.
