TAIPEI, Reuters – A leader of a U.S. Congressional delegation to Taiwan praised Taiwan as a “forcefor good” during a meeting on Friday with President TsaiIng-wen. He said that under Tsai, ties with America were stronger than they have been in many decades.

On Thursday, five U.S. House of Representatives members arrived in Taiwan for a two day trip. This is the second visit in a month by U.S. legislators to Taiwan.

Mark Takano was the chairman of House Committee on Veteran’s Affairs and the leader of the bipartisan delegation.

“Madame President! I wish to compliment and praise your leadership. Your administration has made the relationships between us more productive and positive than ever before,” Takano said. Takano’s group had previously been in Japan and South Korea.

Our commitment to Taiwan has been solid, and it has not changed as our ties have grown stronger. “Taiwan is a democracy success story, a trusted partner and a force to good in the global,” he said.

Like most other countries, the United States has not established official relations with Taiwan, but it is Taiwan’s largest international supporter and arm supplier. This angers Beijing.

China is increasing military and political pressures on Taiwan in order to force it to recognize its sovereignty rights. Tsai has pledged to keep peace with China but will protect Taiwan in case of attack.

According to her, Taiwan will keep up its cooperation with America in light of regional conditions. This is to preserve our common values of democracy and freedom as well as to maintain peace and stability within the region.

China’s military launched a combat readiness drill in Taiwan Strait this month after the defense ministry of China condemned the U.S. Congress delegation that had visited Taiwan on military aircraft.
