BERLIN, (Reuters) – Tesla (NASDAQ) has withdrawn the application for state funding to build its battery plant in Brandenburg. This is just outside Berlin.

The spokesperson stated that Tesla will continue to follow its plans for the battery plant in the Gigafactory BerlinBrandenburg. However, it would do so without any state IPCEI funding. This refers to European subsidies to projects of common European interest.

In January, the European Union approved a plan which included state assistance to Tesla and BMW to help with production and reduce China’s imports.

Tesla was expected to receive 1.14 billion euros https://www.reuters.com/business/autos-transportation/german-decision-tesla-subsidies-expected-by-end-year-2021-09-05 ($1.28 billion) in EU funding under the plan, with a final decision likely by the end of the year.

The spokesperson stated that construction on the factory site has seen good progress during the last weeks. Elon Musk, Tesla CEO, said he wanted to begin producing automobiles by the end this year.
