WASHINGTON (Reuters] – The U.S. President Joe Biden announced on Friday that eight African countries will not be allowed to travel from South Africa. This was due to concerns regarding a COVID-19 variation found in South Africa.
The official said the restrictions will apply to South Africa, Botswana, Zimbabwe, Namibia, Lesotho, Eswatini, Mozambique, and Malawi and were being “implemented out of an abundance of caution in light of a new COVID-19 variant circulating in Southern Africa.”
According to the official, this policy doesn’t prohibit flights nor apply to lawful permanent residents and citizens of America. Only on Nov. 8, the United States lifted South Africa’s travel restrictions.
