NEW DELHI, (Reuters) – The Indian government warned people not to subscribe.

Starlink Internet Services is a subsidiary of Elon Musk’s SpaceX aerospace company. It does not hold a license to operate in this country.

Starlink received instructions from the Indian government to follow all regulations and stop “booking/rendering satellite internet services in India” with an immediate effect, according to a Friday evening statement.

Starlink India registered its business on November 1. Starlink has already begun to advertise and, according to government records, has also started pre-selling the service.

Reuters sent an email to the company asking for comment, but they did not respond immediately.

Many companies have begun to launch small satellites to offer low latency internet service in remote locations. This is part of the low-Earth orbiting network.
