WASHINGTON, (Reuters) – President Joe Biden was briefed about the current situation with the Omicron version of COVID-19. The White House stated that the White House had given the update on Saturday. Britain, Germany, and Italy all reported detecting cases.
A White House official stated in a statement that “at the same time senior health officials as the COVID response group have been monitoring Omicron’s latest updates and in regular contact with health officials across the globe,”
Omicron’s first detection in South Africa was this week. It prompted countries across the globe to put travel restrictions on Omicron, as well as at least seven other nations in the area, including the United States.
The Omicron variant is not yet known to have been found in the United States. However, Dr. Anthony Fauci (the nation’s leading infectious disease specialist) stated that he would not be surprised if the Omicron variant was detected in America on Saturday’s NBC’s Weekend TODAY.
Fauci stated that a viral infection that has shown this much transmissibility is almost certain to spread to others.
