LONDON (Reuters – Two people have died, and tens upon thousands of homes were without power due to Storm Arwen. Strong winds brought heavy rains across the UK with gusts reaching speeds of 100 miles an hour (163 kph).

According to police, one person died Friday night in Northern Ireland’s County Antrim from a car being struck by a tree. According to local media, the victim was principal at a primary school.

According to police, another victim was also killed when a tree fell on him in Cumbria.

According to the Met Office in Northumberland (northern England), gusts reached Brizlee Wood at 98 mph. Yellow warnings were in effect for much of the country on Saturday.

It stated that “Many roads are still closed, so please travel only if absolutely necessary”, via Twitter (NYSE:).

Northern Powergrid said Saturday that over 100,000 customers were still without electricity. It delivers electricity to North East England properties and Yorkshire homes.

P&O Ferries said it had been forced to halt sailing between Northern Ireland and Scotland.
