(Reuters: Delta Air Lines, NYSE:), announced Sunday that a flight between South Africa and America was diverted to Boston from Atlanta for technical reasons.

Flight 201, an Airbus A350, from Johannesburg was initially set to arrive at Hartsfield–Jackson Atlanta International Airport on Sunday but was instead routed to Boston’s Logan International Airport, Delta said.

According to the company, the diversion was due to “technical specifications of the A350 aircraft” and “the payload of that particular flight”, according an email.

“This can happen on ultra-long-haul flights when optimal operating conditions can’t be met,” it said.

It was originally scheduled to arrive in Atlanta at 8.15 EST (1315 GMT). The flight was then rescheduled for Boston at 9.27 AM. Before departing for Atlanta, the plane will take off at 10.40 AM.

However, the company didn’t cite Omicron, the recently discovered coronavirus variant, for temporary diversion. It was detected in South Africa.
