American Airlines, Halliburton, Moderna Rise Premarket; Merck Falls -Breaking

  • American AirlinesStock rose 1.4% at NASDAQ Delta Air LinesStock rose 1.6% at the NYSE United Airlines (NASDAQ:) stock climbed 1.7%, the airlines rebounding after Friday’s sharp losses in the wake of the omicron variant news. On Sunday, 2.45 million passengers were screened by the U.S. Transportation Security Administration. This is the largest daily screening since the outbreak.

  • Exxon Mobil Stock rose 1.1% at the NYSE Chevron Stock climbed 1.5% at (NYSE:) Halliburton (NYSE:) stock rose 2% as crude prices jumped by around 5% in Monday’s recovery.

  • Moderna (NASDAQ) Stock rose 9.5% when the chief medical officers of the drugmaker said that they could release a vaccine to fight the omicron variation by next year. 
  • TeslaCNBC reported that Elon Musk had told his staff to put their efforts into reducing costs, rather than rushing to complete deliveries in the fourth quarter.

  • Advanced Micro DevicesStock rose 1.7% after a report by media that Tesla had begun using an AMD chip in Model Y cars in China.    

  • Merck (NYSE:) stock fell 2.4% after Citigroup downgraded its investment stance on the drugmaker to ‘neutral’ from ‘buy’, saying the disappointing data for two of its important drugs means its future pipeline looks weak.

  • TJX Companies (NYSE:) stock rose 2.6% after Citigroup (NYSE:) upgraded its stance on the owner of TJ Maxx retail chain to ‘buy’ from ‘neutral’, expecting shoppers to shop earlier and spend more at the stores.

  • MGM ResortsThe stock (NYSE:) fell 0.3% Wynn ResortsStock fell 1.8% after losses at Macau units following a string of arrests on suspicion of money laundering and cross border gambling.

  • United Parcel Service (NYSE:) stock fell 0.3% after Deutsche Bank downgraded its stance to ‘hold’ from ‘buy’, saying the delivery company has outperformed the S&P 500 since the start of the pandemic but investors should start looking elsewhere.
