SYDNEY (Reuters] – As a result of the global spread Omicron virus, new coronavirus cases have been reported in Australia, France, Denmark, and the Netherlands. It has forced nations to rethink their international travel plans as they attempt to avert an outbreak.

The news of this variant caused alarm and sell-off in the financial markets last week as countries imposed new restrictions to protect it from being vaccinated and stop it from disrupting an economic recovery that was underway after two years of global pandemics.

According to the World Health Organisation (WHO), determining the severity of Omicron could take from days to weeks, if there is no information about its symptoms, which was first identified in South Africa.

Australia’s plans for reopening to students and skilled migrants will be reviewed starting Dec. 1. Prime Minister Scott Morrison stated Monday that it is too soon to reinstate the two-week-old mandatory quarantine on foreign travelers.

Morrison stated that they would take it one step at time, gather the most information and make sensible, calm decisions.” Morrison spoke to Nine News.

The national security panel, which will assess the border relaxations that are due Wednesday from Wednesday to Tuesday, will meet later on in the day, and leaders from all 50 states and territories must meet before Tuesday.

The severity, transmissibility, or vaccine resistance of Omicron were not known. He reiterated the WHO’s concerns and called for calm.

Omicron, which is more potentially contagious than the previous versions, has been discovered in Australia and Botswana.

Omicron symptoms are mild, and they can be treated at-home, according to a South African doctor who first suspected a different variant.

TRAVEL CURBS

In an effort to curb the spread of southern Africa’s diseases, several countries, including Saudi Arabia and Indonesia have implemented travel bans.

Singapore delayed the opening of travel lanes for vaccinated travelers with Middle Eastern countries like Qatar, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates due to “their proximity” as transportation nodes to affected countries.

Britain declared that Monday would be the day for an urgent meeting with G7 health ministers.

Israel announced it would ban all foreigners entering the country and will reintroduce anti-terrorism phone tracking technology in the biggest offensive against the variant.

South Africa condemned the sanctions as being unfair and harmful to its economy.

“The prohibition on travel is not supported by science and will not prevent the spread,” President Cyril Ramaphosa declared Sunday.

“It will not do anything but further damage the economies and weaken their ability to respond to it.”

According to a White House statement, President Joe Biden will provide an update about the variant and U.S. response Monday.

Biden was told by Dr. Anthony Fauci that it will take approximately two weeks for definitive information on Omicron’s transmissibility.

The White House stated that Fauci believed existing vaccines would provide some protection from severe COVID cases.
