WASHINGTON (Reuters] – On Monday, a phone conversation between Republican U.S. Representative Lauren Boebert & Democratic counterpart Ilhanomar was strained after Boebert failed to publicly apologize for suggesting her colleague saw her as a threat.

Boebert was a first term lawmaker, and has been controversial for vowing to ignore Washington gun regulations and criticizing fellow Republicans. The call came after Omar’s video surfaced in which she called Omar, a Muslim, “jihad squad” members.

Boebert, in a Friday statement, apologized to “anyone in the Muslim Community I offended by my comment.”

Boebert didn’t show any remorse on Monday. She posted a video of her conversation with Omar, and she doubled down her comments.

Make no mistakes. Fearlessly putting America first will be my mantra. I won’t sympathize with terrorists and will keep doing so. Boebert explained that Ilhan is unable to say the same and that our country has been made worse by it.

Omar made a statement saying that she wanted an apology.

Rep. Boebert declined to apologize for Islamophobic remarks and fabricate lies and instead refused to acknowledge the hurtful and potentially dangerous comments she made. Omar stated that she instead redoubled her rhetoric. “I decided to stop the unproductive call.”

This year the House disciplined Republicans twice in mostly party-line voting. It censured Rep. Paul Gosar in a video that depicted him shooting Alexandria Ocasio Cortez, and it removed Marjorie Taylor Greene (first-term lawmaker) from committee assignments due to past comments supporting violence against Democrats.

Kevin McCarthy, a top House Republican said later that Greene and Gosar could both be reinstated to their respective committee assignments if Republicans regain a majority in 2022’s midterm elections.
