(Reuters) – Twitter Inc (NYSE) Monday promoted Parag Aggrawal, an insider at the company and head of technology to succeed Jack Dorsey.

In tapping top-ranking company employees, the social media network platform is joining tech giants Alphabet and Amazon (NASDAQ.).

DECADE WITH TITER

Agrawal began his Twitter career in the software engineering field and has been with Twitter for more than a decade. He was elected chief technology officer on October 2017.

Twitter’s technical strategy was managed by him. His responsibilities included improving software development speed and machine learning adoption across the organization.

PROJECT BLUESKY

Agrawal also works on Project Bluesky since December 2019. This independent group of engineers, architects and designers uses open-source software to fight misleading and abusive information on Twitter.

Bluesky will introduce decentralized technology. This means that Twitter, and others, would become Bluesky clients and build their platforms using the standard. Dorsey previously stated this.

EX-MICROSOFT YAHOO EMPLOYEE

Agrawal was employed at before joining Twitter. Microsoft Corp (NASDAQ:), Yahoo and AT&T (NYSE:) Labs Inc in their research units, according to his LinkedIn profile.

STANFORD GRADUATE

Agrawal is a Stanford University Ph.D. candidate in computer sciences and an Indian Institute of Technology Bombay bachelor’s student in engineering.
