(Reuters) – U.S. Federal Reserve Chairman Jerome Powell said Tuesday that it was appropriate for the bank to speed up the end of its taper of large-scale bond purchase. This decision is based on strong economic conditions and high inflation.

The Fed began tapering earlier in the month. They announced a timeline for its reduction that would finish it by mid-year. But, most people expect that they will revisit this schedule at their next meeting in two week. Powell spoke during testimony before the Senate Banking Committee.
