BUDAPEST, (Reuters) – The resolution passed Tuesday by Hungary’s Parliament will allow the government to hold a referendum about LGBT issues. This raises Prime Minister Viktor Orban’s anti-LGBT campaign up to a whole new level ahead of next year’s difficult election.

Orban is a nationalist, who has held power since 2010. He proposed that a referendum be conducted on the ruling party legislation, which limits school teachings about homosexuality, transgender, and other issues. This would escalate a culture war between Europe Union.

Orban, the nationalist, is contesting his first competition election for more than 10 years. Orban sought to support social policies, which he said would protect Christian values and counter Western liberalism. His campaign also included migration.

Four referendum questions were voted upon by Parliament, each one passing with Fidesz’s majority.

Balazs Orban, deputy minister to Hungary told Parliament that the Hungarian government proposed citizens have the opportunity to voice their opinions on gender propaganda.

We are determined. “We believe we must say no to LGBTQ propagandism in schools with the aid of media and NGOs, without parents consent.”

Although he stated that the referendum should be held on the same date as the parliamentary election, it will save taxpayers’ money. President Janos Adder must decide the date. Ader, an ally, has yet to set the date for the parliamentary election, which is expected to take place in April.

Hungarians will have to vote on whether or not they are in favor of holding sexual orientation workshops at schools, without their parents consent.

The children will also be asked if media content which could influence sexual orientation should not be restricted.

Anxiety among LGBT communities has been caused by the June law, which was passed by the government to protect children.
