Rhode Islander charged with Jan. 6 U.S. attack on police using table leg -Breaking

WASHINGTON (Reuters] – A Rhode Island man has been charged with felony for allegedly using a wooden table leg against police who were protecting the U.S. Capitol at the Jan. 6 riot.
An 11-page summary of facts was provided by an agent of the Federal Bureau of Investigation based in Boston. It stated that video footage from the riot captured Timothy Desjardins (35), of Providence “assaulting several law enforcement officers in a U.S. Capitol Tunnel using what appears to be a wooden table leg”.
According to the FBI, at the time police protecting the Capitol were attacked by rioters, who were rushing into the tunnel throwing items including a baton, a table, and other objects.
According to a federal official, Desjardins faces multiple riot-related charges. The charges include violence against a restricted building, civil disorder, and assaulting police officers with a dangerous firearm.
FBI stated that Desjardins’ involvement in the riot was confirmed by Washington police locating a backpack believed to have been worn during Desjardins’ arrest.
According to the FBI, inside the bag was Desjardins’ identification card and two walkie talkies.
Desjardins, according to the Prosecutors is currently being held in Rhode Island for unrelated criminal offenses. The Providence Journal reported Desjardins was accused of engaging in an hours-long, armed standoff against Providence police Nov. 11. This occurred in his barbershop.
Nearly 700 individuals have been arrested for taking part in Jan. 6’s riot and around 210 have been charged during the attack with assaulting, resisting, or impeding officers or employees.
