(Reuters) – Twitter Inc Monday’s appointment of Parag Agrawal, technology chief at NYSE: to replace Jack Dorsey as chief executive officer was made by (NYSE:).

Social media platform, Alphabet (NASDAQ) and Amazon (NASDAQ) join tech giants Apple (NASDAQ), Alphabet (NASDAQ) in tapping an insider to the top position.

DECADE WITH TITER

Agrawal started Twitter as a software engineer more than 10 years ago. He was then appointed chief technology officers in October 2017.

Twitter’s technical strategy was managed by him. His role included improving software development speed and advancing machine learning in the organization.

Agrawal at 37 is the youngest chief executive officer of a company.

NEWEST INDIAN-ORIGIN CEO

Agrawal, the new CEO, is of Indian descent, and joins a group that also includes Sundar Pichai from Alphabet Inc. Microsoft Corp (NASDAQ:)’s Satya Nadella and IBM Corp’s Arvind Kumar.

STANFORD GRADUATE

Agrawal holds a PhD in Philosophy in Computer Science from Stanford University https:// as well as a Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering from Indian Institute of Technology Bombay (IITB).

Krishna and Pichai both hold Bachelor’s Degrees from IITs.

PROJECT BLUESKY

Agrawal is also involved in Project Bluesky (an independent open-source team of architects, engineers, and designers) to counter misleading and abusive tweets since December 2019.

Bluesky will introduce decentralized technology. This means that Twitter, and other platforms, would become Bluesky clients and then rebuild their sites on top of Bluesky’s standard. Dorsey previously stated this.

Agrawal responded to a question about protecting freedom of speech and combating misinformation during an interview https:// in 2020 with the MIT Technology Review. He said that “our (Twitter) role was not to be bound to the First Amendment but to serve a healthy, public conversation, and our actions are reflective on things we believe will lead to a healthier, public conversation.”
