Investing.com – Australia stocks were lower after the close on Wednesday, as losses in the , and sectors led shares lower.

After the Sydney closing, the index fell 0.2% to reach a new one-month low.

They were the top performers at the session South32 Ltd (ASX) climbed 3.97%, or 0.140 points, to close at 3.670. Waypoint REIT Ltd. (ASX 🙂 gained 3.1% or 0.080 to trade at 2.650. Lynas Rare Earths Ltd. (ASX 🙂 was also up 2.71% (or 0.240) to 9.110.

GUD Holdings Ltd. ASX: was among the worst-performing stocks of the session. It fell 7.8%, or 0.88 points, to close at 10.78. Pro Medicus Ltd (ASX): The ASX declined by 7.39% or 4.62 point to close at 57.86 Idp Education Ltd (ASX:) fell 6.00%, or 2.10 points, to 32.88.

On the Sydney Stock Exchange, falling stocks outnumbered those in progress by 978 to 433, and ended unaffected at 368.

Lynas Natural Earths Ltd. (ASX) shares rose by 2.71% to 5-year highs. This is an increase of 0.240 to 9.110.

The February delivery of Gold Futures was at $1788.40 per troy ounce, an increase of 0.67%. In commodities trading, crude oil rose 2.23 percent or 3.37% to reach $68.41 per barrel in January, and the February Brent oil contract rose 2.54 or 3.67% to trade at $71.77 per barrel.

The AUD/USD rose 0.45% to 0.7155 while the AUD/JPY rose by 0.70% and climbed to 81.14.

The US Dollar Index Futures were down 0.3% at 95.975.
