WASHINGTON (Reuters] – Meta Platforms Inc. (NASDAQ:) has asked a U.S. judge to throw out an antitrust case filed by U.S. Federal Trade Commission.
Facebook claimed that there was no “plausible factual support” by the FTC for the claim that it has market power to drive up the prices of social networks. Facebook claimed the FTC had failed to prove that Facebook illegally protected a monopoly.
FTC initially sued Facebook in the Trump administration. The court dismissed the FTC’s complaint. In August, the FTC filed an amended complaint. This included more details about the accusations that Facebook had bought or crushed rivals. It also asked for a judge’s order to make Instagram and WhatsApp sell.
Judge James Boasberg, U.S. District Court District of Columbia is currently presiding over the case.
