(Reuters) – Qualcomm Inc (NASDAQ:) Inc has released a new chipset for gaming-specific handhelds that supports 5G connectivity. It is a possible new mobile platform to offer video gamers more freedom and flexibility in streaming their favorite games.

According to the San Diego-based company, Razer Inc has been contracted by it for an initial testing device.

Qualcomm is the top supplier of smartphones chips in the entire world. They have also become an important platform for video gaming, and are therefore one of the major revenue generators for mobile apps stores.

Qualcomm announced Wednesday its G3x Gen 1 chip. This will allow handheld devices to have a touchscreen similar to smartphones, as well as physical controls such a controller for a console or gaming console. It also promises a longer battery life and a better experience while playing graphic-intensive games.

Today’s most loved similar device is the Nintendo Co Ltd T: You can switch (NYSE:), however, that device lacks cellular data connectivity. Instead it relies solely on WiFi.

Snapdragon powered devices will have 5G connectivity for streaming games from cloud gaming services like Microsoft Corp (NASDAQ) When WiFi isn’t available. To take full advantage of Qualcomm’s graphic processing capabilities (which are often not fully utilized on smartphones due to battery life issues), the devices will have larger batteries.

It’s small enough to be carried around in your pocket, which is the main thing with this phone. In an interview with Reuters, Micah Knapp (senior director of product management at Qualcomm) said that there are many compromises to make when a phone is used for other purposes than gaming. What happens when you make a phone that is only for gaming?

Qualcomm stated that Razer is a manufacturer of gaming laptops and PCs. It has created an initial “developer kits” to allow game designers to begin writing their own software. Qualcomm didn’t give any timeframe for the commercialization of its devices.
