President Joe BidenOn Thursday, he stated that his plans to combat Covid in the winter months won’t include any new lockdowns nor an increase of current vaccine requirements.

The president stated that while I am currently reviewing my federal vaccine requirements, the court is reviewing this plan. However, it does not add or expand on those mandates. This plan, however, can be embraced by all Americans and should receive bipartisan support, in my humble opinion.

By expanding outreach efforts, the Administration hopes to increase Americans receiving booster shots. Centers for Medicare/Medicaid Services will remind the over 60 million Medicare recipients, mostly seniors, that an extra shot is available.

It also expands free Covid testing at home. According to the president, Americans will receive reimbursements for their tests. The administration will also distribute 50,000,000 free tests to clinics in rural areas and health centers to those who are not covered.

Biden stated that the White does not believe any additional measures are necessary at this time, however is creating contingency plans for the development of new boosters and vaccines in case they become needed.

Biden stated that his team was already working with Moderna and Pfizer officials to create contingency plans for boosters and other vaccines. He said, “And I will also direct FDA and CDC to use a fast process without cutting corners on safety to get these vaccines reviewed and approved if necessary.”

Beginning next week the U.S. will demand that all inbound international passengers, regardless of status or vaccination, be tested at least 24 hours before they depart. Additionally, the administration will extend the mandate to use masks on domestic flights and transit up until March 18.

Biden stated that “we are better positioned than we were one year ago in fighting COVID-19.”
