NEW YORK, (Reuters) – The fourth day of Ghislaine Maxwell’s sex abuse case was scheduled for Thursday. This was following the emotional testimony of a woman who claimed that Ghislaine Maxwell set her up to be abused by Jeffrey Epstein as a 14-year-old.
Jane, a pseudonym for the woman, was one of the four witnesses expected to speak against Maxwell during Maxwell’s six-week trial. Jane, who was on the witness stand for almost eight hours and lasted nearly two days, described Maxwell’s involvement in sexual encounters she had with Epstein.
Maxwell (59) was taken into custody in July 2020. Maxwell pleaded guilty to eight charges of sex traficking and related charges. Epstein, according to her lawyers is dead so the prosecutors want to make her an accomplice.
At 66 years old, the ex-math teacher turned globetrotter committed suicide in Manhattan’s jail cells while awaiting his trial for sex abuse. Epstein hired Maxwell as a manager of his personal assets. Maxwell is the daughter and late British media baron Robert Maxwell. They dated during the 1990s.
Jane, who is an actress, testified that Epstein was a patron of the arts, and she could benefit from his connections to support her career. While still in high school, she claimed that Epstein helped her meet Prince Andrew from Britain and Donald Trump as a former president of the United States.
Trump, Prince Andrew and others have never been accused criminally of wrongdoing.
Jane was questioned by the prosecution and other witnesses were called to verify her account. Matt, Jane’s ex-boyfriend, also testified under a pseudonym. He said Jane had told him about Epstein’s abuse in 2009. Jane said that Epstein made it clear to her that there was someone present who helped her feel comfortable with their encounters.
Matt stated in evidence on Wednesday that Jane had identified the victim as Ghislaine Minwell, and Jane confirmed her identity.
