GSK says tests show antibody drug works against Omicron -Breaking

(Reuters) – GlaxoSmithKline (NYSE 🙂 announced Thursday that a laboratory analysis of its antibody-based COVID-19 treatment it has been developing with U.S. collaborator Vir had shown that the drug was effective against Omicron variant.
British drugmaker, Sotrovimab stated in a statement that it has been proven to be effective against Omicron-related viruses through laboratory tests and an experiment on hamsters.
It said that the tests continue to verify the results against Omicron mutations. An update is expected before the end of the year.
On Thursday, Britain’s Drug Regulatory Authority approved sotrovimab (also known as Xevudy) for those with mild or moderate COVID-19 and at risk of severe diseases.
The Medicines and Healthcare products Regulatory Agency, (MHRA), recommended that Xevudy be used as soon as possible and within five working days after onset of symptoms.
