The House came to a compromise on Thursday over a bill short-term funding government. This would stop a Friday shutdown.

Rosa DeLauro (D-Conn.), Chair of the House Appropriations Committee, stated in a statement that the measure would finance government at its current level through February 18. On Thursday, the House may vote on this legislation.

To prevent funding lapses, both chambers must pass a spending bill before Friday. Extended shutdowns can result in the furlough of federal workers or suspension of certain services.

Even if the Senate passes the bill on Thursday, it could pose problems for lawmakers who rush to get out of a crisis. Every senator can stop the bill from being quickly passed.

A small group of Republicans including Sen. Mike Lee, from Utah, pushed for language to be included in the bill. This would ban a Biden administration mandate against private employers. This could cause a delay in the approval of funding bills and at most a temporary shut down.

Uncertain if Senate leaders will reach an agreement to allow for quick voting on the spending bill.
