(Reuters) – Ride hailing firm Lyft Inc (NASDAQ) has named Elaine Paul, Amazon.com Inc’s chief financial officer (NASDAQ) as its replacement for Brian Roberts. Paul had served in this role for seven years.

Paul will assume the position starting Jan. She currently serves as the Vice President and Chief Financial Officer of Amazon Studios, a unit that produces web-series and film content.

This transition occurs at a moment when Lyft (NYSE: Uber) and its rival Uber (NYSE 🙂 try to reduce costs in order to compensate for the decline in ridership due to pandemic and the shortage of drivers.

Roberts stated in a LinkedIn posting that “there will not be spoilers today but I have discovered an exciting frontier opportunity for mission-driven founders dedicated to serving their communities.”

Lyft claimed that Roberts’ departure was not the result of any conflict or disagreement with Lyft or the board.

Brian’s contribution has been enormous over the last seven years to Lyft. With his support and leadership, Lyft went public and reached adjusted EBITDA (earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization) profitability — two critical milestones,” said Logan Green, Lyft’s co-founder and chief executive officer.

Paul (54), was the CFO at Hulu for six-years before joining Amazon. Prior to that, she had worked at Walt Disney World. Disney Co, for 19 years as a senior financial and strategy officer.

Lyft announced that Roberts would remain an advisor through June 2022, to aid in the transition.
