Tinder’s CEO talks metaverse, virtual currency -Breaking

(Reuters] – Tinder’s CEO Renate Nyborg spoke at the Reuters Next conference. She said that Tinder is looking to merge the offline and online worlds.
Match Group Inc’s chief executive cited its newly introduced Explore feature. Swipe Nights, interactive events that allow people to create their own experiences and find their match with other users based on those choices, are an example of Interactive Events.
She said that the company was testing an in-app currency, which daters can use to purchase premium services or as rewards for their good behaviour on the app.
Nyborg responded to a question regarding the company’s plans on dating in the metaverse. “From a Tinder standpoint, we have been talking about Tinderverse internal, which is more focused on blurring the line between offline and online.”
In general, the metaverse is a concept that allows people to access shared virtual places through their devices. They can then move between digital spaces. The spaces can be virtual reality (VR), or augmented reality.
Facebook (NASDAQ:), recently renamed to Meta Platforms Inc is one of many tech companies betting on metaverse technology.
Bumble dating app stated in its November earnings call, that it plans to be ready for whatever happens in “the metaverse.”
Nyborg explained that Tinder’s main goal is to help people get together in real-life.
According to her, while it had been possible for people to feel connected via the internet during the COVID-19 Pandemic, this also proved the importance of having real-life relationships.
