WASHINGTON, (Reuters) – Members of United Auto Workers (UAW), have voted in favor to switch the union’s electoral system from the delegate model to a direct-election model. This was according to a court-appointed monitor.

With 84% of 143,000 votes counted, the referendum shows that 63% of voters are in favor direct voting, Neil Barofsky, monitor, said.

Referendum at the union’s 400,000 members was necessary as part of U.S. Justice Department Settlement announced December 2020 in corruption allegations which led to convictions for two UAW presidents.
