White House chief medical adviser Dr. Anthony Fauci stated Friday that laboratory studies strongly support the idea of booster shots providing cross protection against Covid-19 variants. But, he noted that it is not proven.

Fauci stated that booster shots significantly increase antibodies against different variants of the virus. He spoke at a White House press conference Friday. So-called memory B and T cells are also increased by third shots. a line of defenseThe immune system uses these to fight off viruses. 

While memory cells make antibodies against bacteria and viruses, T cells attack and destroy cells that are infected by viruses. 

Fauci explained that “there’s every reason for you to believe that, if you are vaccinated or boosted, that you would at least have some degree of cross defense.” “Very probable against severe diseases, even the omicron-type.”

Fauci’s words come as the world struggles with Covid-19, a highly-mutated variant of the omicron. 

There are 50 variants of the variant, with more than 30 of them on spike protein. This is the viral mechanism that attaches to cells. The World Health Organization states that some of these mutations lead to increased transmission and decrease in antibody protection.

On Monday, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention addressed growing concerns about Omicron. strengthened its recommendationOn Covid-19 booster shot, all adults are told that they should get another dose. Everyone 18 and older should get an additional shot six months after their initial Pfizer or Moderna series, or two months after their first Johnson & Johnson shot, according to the CDC’s new guidance. 

Biden’s administration also encourages the use of Covid-19 booster shots. They promise to supply them to up to 100 millions eligible Americans.

He promised to increase outreach and availability, as well as more time and places for walk-ins.

According to the White House, more than 41,000,000 Americans have received a booster shot so far, which includes nearly half of senior citizens. 

The omicron variant is still a concern for health officials worldwide and in the U.S.

A November study published in the journal Science showed that the Pfizer vaccine’s efficacy at preventing infection declined from 86% to 43% from February to October. The study also found Moderna’s vaccine dropped from 89% to 58%, and J&J’s fell from 86% to 13% against infection.

Pfizer’s booster dosage provided 95% protection against symptoms of infection during a clinical trial involving 10,000 participants.
