DOHA, (Reuters) – A number of European countries are working to establish a mission diplomatic in Afghanistan for their ambassadors.

As the U.S. was completing its pullout, Western countries were left grappling about how to interact with Taliban.

After the Taliban captured Kabul and declared an interim government, United States and Western countries closed all their embassies.

Macron spoke to journalists in Doha, before traveling to Jeddah (Saudi Arabia) to discuss the idea of a European organization.

United States, European and other countries refuse to recognize Pashtun-dominated Taliban.

He said that this was a distinct demarche from a political acknowledgement or political dialogue to the Taliban. However, he added that there were still security concerns.

The European Union said that it may soon be opening a mission after talks with Taliban officials a week prior.

The EU delegation stated, “The possibility of establishing an minimal presence on ground in Kabul that would not entail reconnaissance will directly depend on security situation and effective decisions of the de facto authority to permit the EU adequate protection for its staff, premises, and personnel.”

France also announced separately Friday that it carried out an emergency evacuation mission to Afghanistan, with Qatar’s assistance, taking out more than 300 Afghans.
