Following a corporate Christmas party that authorities described as being a “super spreader” event, at least 13 Osloans have become infected by the omicron version of coronavirus. The number could reach over 60 according to authorities on Friday.

Scatec renewable energy company, which operates in South Africa, was responsible for the outbreak that occurred at its Christmas party held on November 26.

Preben Aavitsland is a senior medical officer at the Norwegian Institute of Public Health and told Reuters that this party had been a huge success.

Our working hypothesis states that the Omicron variant was present in at least half the participants. For now, this is the biggest omicron infection outside South Africa.

Aside from those infected at the party Aavitsland stated that two individuals living in West Norway and two others in Oslo quarantine were confirmed to be infected with the omicron coronavirus variant.

After the outbreak, the Norwegian government reintroduced some national restrictions in an effort to stop the spread of Covid-19.

Companies across Europe are cancelling plans for Christmas parties due to the emergence the omicron variety.

Oslo was the first city to confirm that someone had been infected. The party had at least one worker who had just returned from South Africa. Everyone was fully vaccinated, and all had been tested positive before attending the party.

Oslo stated that “Health authorities confirmed 12 additional cases of omicron after an epidemic.” Following sequencing, thirteen cases of Omicron have already been confirmed. We expect more cases.”

According to health authorities, the symptoms were mild and no one was hospitalized.

Aavitsland stated that it is too soon to know if the clinical picture for Omicron infection is any different from Delta infection.

“None of these patients have severe symptoms and none are admitted to hospital.” This is due to the fact that the patients are young.

Scatec claimed that they had been following the instructions of authorities during the pandemic. Scatec also stated that its main focus was to take care of employees and limit the spread of the disease.
