Steve Cohen-backed start-up bets on 24-hour trading so investors can react instantly to tweets

Hedge-fund billionaire and NY Mets owner Steve Cohen has invested in a crypto start-up that aims to launch a stock exchange with 24-hour trading.

Point72 Ventures, Cohen’s venture capital fund is leading the $14 million round of funding for 24 Exchange. This Bermuda-based cryptocurrency and foreign exchange trading platform aims to make non-stop digital currency trading available to the stock markets.

Trades in the U.S. stock exchange begin at 9:00 a.m. ET, ending at 4 pm on weekdays. Extended trading permits investors to trade as early or late as 4 am and 8 pm respectively. This can lead to volatile price swings.

A record number of new, younger traders entered the market during the coronavirus pandemic to ride the epic rebound in stocks. A group of meme stocks, which include GameStop AMCIn an extremely short period of time earlier in the year, prices soared. Rapid growth was experienced by online brokerages including Robinhood, Fidelity, and Charles Schwab over the past one year.

24 Exchange sees strong international investor demand for 24 hour trading.

Galinov stated that “Overseas stock exchanges began to list U.S. stocks, and they trade outside U.S. hour.” It is clear that investors from overseas are enthusiastic about Apple and Tesla, as well as other American greats.

To approve 24 hour trading, the company filed a draft with U.S. Securities and Exchange Commission. Galinov indicated that he expected a decision to be made in the summer 2022.

We are vertically integrated. Retail clients are being redirected directly to the exchange by us, without the need for a broker. Galinov stated that we are merging all of these asset types into one wholesale system, which will allow retail clients to benefit from lower prices and open up new markets.”

Long-term goals include securitization and other digital assets not yet under SEC jurisdiction. This includes crypto, non-fungible assets or NFTs.
