DUBAI (Reuters). – Iran’s reluctance to lift sanctions against Iran makes it difficult to revive the 2015 nuclear pact. This was according to a top Iranian official, quoted by Iranian media.

Indirect talks between Washington and Tehran on reinstating their nuclear pact broke off https://www.reuters.com/world/middle-east/iran-nuclear-talks-break-friday-with-formal-meeting-officials-2021-12-03 on Friday, with both sides saying they would resume the following week, as Western officials voiced dismay at sweeping demands by the Islamic Republic.

According to Iran’s Tasnim news agency, “It’s now obvious that Washington’s unwillingness to give up all sanctions is the biggest obstacle to progress in the negotiations.”

We believe that an agreement is possible if both the U.S. government and European parties give up their campaign of maximum pressure.

Iran and the major powers held talks in April to try and bring back Washington and Tehran into complete compliance with the accord, which was abandoned by Donald Trump three year ago.

The talks were stopped by Ebrahim Raisi, Iran’s ultra-conservative President in June.

Iran began violating the nukes of the accord one year after Trump reinstated harsh sanctions.

Iran demands that all US sanctions be lifted by a transparent process.

A senior U.S. State Department official stated that while the United States wanted to revive the agreement, which allowed Iran to limit its nuclear program in exchange for economic sanctions relief, time was short.
