Nasdaq to eclipse NYSE in record year for IPOs -Breaking

(Reuters] – Nasdaq Inc looks to overtake rival New York Stock Exchange’s (NYSE) in its initial public offerings. This year has witnessed record capital raisings through stock flotations in America.
Data from Dealogic shows that Nasdaq raised $191.38 Billion through IPOs between 2021 and $109.25 Billion at the NYSE.
NYSE has been the most popular place for new listing in recent decades, with the exception of a few years during dot-com boom. In 2021 there have been 686 listed companies on the Nasdaq and 265 on the NYSE.
There were a lot of stock market debuts that made headlines at Nasdaq. Rivian, an Amazon-backed electric vehicle manufacturer, was the most notable.

The capital raised by Nasdaq was $96.76 billion in special purpose acquisition companies (SPAC) while traditional IPOs brought in $94.63 trillion. The figures for NYSE were 56.27 billion and $52.9 trillion, respectively.
SPACs (Standardized Private Companies) are shell companies that have been listed with the intent of merging with a private company at a later time in order to go public without having to do a traditional IPO.
Nasdaq announced that the U.S. will have the fourth-highest number of exchange listing in its history, with 4,133 SPACs, exchange traded funds (ETFs) and operating companies.
This figure surpasses the 2001 exchange milestone of 4,109 listings.
Dealogic says that U.S.IPOs will surpass last year’s $168 billion mark in 2021 with just weeks to go.
